1965-1986

In 1965, William Muhlhauser resigned as Chief Estimator at Riverside Steel Construction Company to venture out on a new opportunity as part owner with Herb Eckman at Eckman Steel. Eckman Steel was in Norwalk and served all of Southern California. After a few years, Herb sold the company to William so he could return to Ohio to be closer to his family. With William’s leadership the company expanded and William’s two sons Ziggy and Peter joined the family business. With the continued growth the company relocated to Bloomington, CA in 1986 along with a name change to Muhlhauser Steel. Chris “Spyder” Muhlhauser joined Muhlhauser Steel in 2007, as the third generation simultaneously working together. Ziggy and Chris started the buyout process of William in 2014 and were ready to navigate the company into the future. In 2015 Ziggy passed away in an accident before the buyout process was complete and the changes he had planned were accomplished. Chris took the lead and finished the buyout process with his own vision of what a steel company should look like to be competitive premier steel fabricator for years to come. Sadly, the loss of Ziggy played a role in William’s health and he passed in 2017 before seeing what Muhlhauser Steel has transformed into. After many hours of design and planning, Muhlhauser Steel moved into its new 40,000 square foot facility in Murrieta CA in 2018. With our automation, technological advancements and hard work, Muhlhauser Steel, has been able to increase their annual revenue by 800%, in 7 short years.
